Mailserver 4.6 released

After a long wait 4.6 release is finally ready The specific updates in this release includes: <ul> <li>Server Side Mail Filter configuration for each user</li> <li>Updated Spam Configuration for users</li> <li>Updated Spam learning, no need to use separate learn mailboxes anymore (Old spam boxes will be deleted during upgrade)</li> <li>Milter type Antivirus and unwanted content type configuration</li> <li>Updated Greylist function (greylisting is now enabled on default) with flexible configuration</li> <li>OpenBSD 4.6 base OS + all updated base packages (postfix, dovecot, SpamAssassin, ClamAV, ...)</li> <li>Roundcube 0.3.1 Webmail + extensions</li> <li>Nginx webserver instead of Apache - faster and less memory usage</li> <li>Use TLS when sending emails if it's supported by the receiving mailserver</li> <li>Allow "-" in usernames and use "+" for address expansion instead (postfix default)</li> </ul>   A couple of things to note: <ul> <li> The Spam/Detected, Spam/LearnAsSpam and Spam/LearnAsNoSpam folders will be deleted. In the 4.6 system only the Spam folder is used.</li> <li>To learn spam and no-spam in 4.6, simply move spam into the Spam folder. The 4.6.3 update works great.  Thanks! I have also noticed (for the next update) that the http:// forward to https:// is now disabled.  Can we get this re-enabled for Nginx? Please al so change the default local.cf with the one attached which u send me and it works . The other local.cf default from the mailserver gives errors . All fine . No errors on 4.6.6 .  Please if it is not troublesome to add detailed logs for what gets greylisted and whitelisted in the webadmin interface like on version 4.5 . Well, since they are being picky, I think it's only fair to be picky back. SSL never happens on port 25, security on port 25 is TLS only, using the STARTTLS command (and it will show the STARTTLS banner when using the ehlo command). The mailserver will therefore not display an SSL banner on port 25 since it doesn't allow SSL (only TLS). SSL happens on the smtps port 465 (in general and on the mailserver). If you want to see for yourself, use openssl and run:  openssl s_client -connect _mailserverip_:25 -starttls smtp It's not uncommon that these services report the wrong thing unfortunately. If you fiddle with the installed packages, and try to upgrade something yourself, you will break things and you are on your own. If you actually look at the list, most of the "outdated" ports are actually newer than the ones you want to install. There are also several ports that have patched manually, outside of the ports tree. OK, my open issues:   1. I am receiving 3-4 output emails/night.  One is daily insecurity that /etc/mail/smtpd.conf is missing.  One is a daily that is blank, another is a daily that has the right data.  The final output email is from cron that the job finished with a null message body. 2. The dashboard indicates that SpamAssassin has not been updated since July 20, 2009.  Is that correct? 3. I only half understand the spam filtering capability.  When mail is put into the Spam folder, how often is it learned, and how often is that folder purged?  Also, vice versa for mail from the Spam folder to the Inbox - how often is that learned? Has something changed in regards to filtering for forwards, i.e. aliases with no local email account?  I thought previously forwarders were not subject to filtering but I just received a message today that was sent to a forwarding email/non-local email and it was processed through the filter.  1st time I've had one marked in the subject as spam and the following in the headers. Hi Andy, yes, the mailserver now does what most people expect it to. In the previous version the mail was still scanned but no headers where inserted unless the recipient was a local users, which was mostly annoying as spam filtering wouldn't work for forwardings at all. Hi guys and happy new year, First, the 20XX bug has indeed been solved in the latest spamassassin update which was release a couple of days ago so by now all installations should have the latest signatures. And with Pop3 - pop3 can only read the Inbox. This is not something specific to the Dovecot implementation or the Mailserver configuration. Pop3 is really a very old protocol that should have died many years ago. With Pop3 and the lack of folder support: <ul> <li>You won't be able to see anything that has been classified as Spam.</li> <li>Spam learning doesn't work.</li> <li>Spam declassification doesn't work.</li> <li>The view in the webmail differs as the webmail uses imap.</li> </ul> <div>At some point in the future it will be disabled in the Mailserver as a default enabled protocol as there are no real benefits to use Pop3 and only drawbacks. Ok, but at least (I hope) i found solution in this case. If we talk about POP3 and SPAM msgs. I can fix it by using filters (as i understand - they are server- based?) . Then i can adapt them to be routed to Inbox folder, by disable Spam rule. One more thing. about greylisting. I can't find exact solution to disable it. I i understand correctly then to disable it i have to create another blank whitelisting rule with Match Destination Email: /.*/    But incoming mails still been delayed. How can i create a greylist rule to check envelope sender(not mailserver reverse)? For example i need to automatically allow my country domains to send mails [anyone@anydomain.lv] Is this a right place to asks such questions? :). With the spam rule, absolutely, if you disabled/delete the spam rule - all emails will be delivered to the inbox. It sounds like you should be able to write a greylisting rule to whitelist from /.*@.*\.lv/ This will check against the envelope mail from command only - it won't do any reverse lookup, so it's obviously trivial to spoof the from address with this setup. Hi Johan.   I understand the need to move forward with version 1.3 and simplify authentication methods, however removing IMAP would render the filetransfer appliance useless for our organisation and I’m sure could also have effects for other users in the future who require two factor authentication. Please let me explain.....   Our company deals with sensitive data as do many however the network has mandatory two factor authentication enforced on all active directory domain controllers. Products that authenticate to active directory must have a dedicated plug-in to communicate with the two factor appliance. Where this is not possible the device must authenticate against another trusted device, allow pass-through authentication or can be placed as an exemption to two factor authentication. The latter option is not possible for active directory domain controllers.   IMAP is used to authenticate against MS exchange which has its own dedicated plug-in for OWA. By authentication against this device it removes the need to have a dedicated plug-in for the filetransfer appliance.   Another possible solution (but one which is not currently available) would be to include the secure file transfer device to be part of the Microsoft network allow NTLM pass-through.   If you require further details pleases drop me a line I hope you can accommodate this requirement in your future upgrades otherwise I will be forced to stay at 1.2.9 for evermore.
